Eternity

(for Brian)

Man carves his name into a stone
And even though he's flesh and bone
With life so short, future unknown
From that deed his name is known
For eternity, more or less.

The Queen the rules in her own way
The laws are made from what she'll say
Her youth and beauty fade away
But her mark will always stay
In eternity, more or less

The movie star in beauty walks
They hold their breath to hear him talk
And when he dies there will be shock
For eternity, in the press.

The scientist with their big ideas
The artist who a paintbrush whields,
The soldiers in the bloodstained fields
They make thier mark on history
They rise into eternity

But Empires fall and film will fade
That old stone carving now unmade
And all of history stands to fade
From eternity, its a mess

Though everything around us now
Will pass into the dark somehow
And fade from memory I still vow
That I will love you for eternity.
Never less.
